Terms of Service
Last updated: June 4, 2026
These are the rules of using Frugal. By creating an account, joining the waitlist, or otherwise using the service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
1. What Frugal is
Frugal is a personal finance app that helps you track spending, set monthly budgets, and get nudged before you overspend. We do this by letting you add transactions manually, forward bank emails, or link a bank account via Mono.
Frugal is not a bank. We do not hold your money, we cannot move money on your behalf, and we are not regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria. We are a tool that helps you understand your own spending. Your bank accounts stay with your bank.
2. Who can use Frugal
You must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have the legal right to manage your own finances.
- Provide accurate information when you sign up.
Frugal is built primarily for Nigerian users but is available worldwide.
3. Your account
You sign in using a magic link sent to your email. You're responsible for keeping access to that email secure. If someone else gets into your email, they can get into your Frugal account.
You may not share your account with anyone, or sell, transfer, or assign it to anyone else, except through the supported "share with a partner" feature.
4. Pricing and payments
Frugal's standard price after public launch is ₦20,000 per month.
During the waitlist, you can secure a permanent discounted price of ₦5,000 per month by paying ₦5,000 upfront. That payment covers your first month of access after launch and locks in the ₦5,000/month rate for as long as you stay continuously subscribed.
All payments are processed by Paystack. By paying, you authorize us to process your payment and authorize Paystack to retain a record of the transaction. Frugal never sees or stores your card details.
5. Refunds
The waitlist payment is refundable in full within 14 days of payment, if you email us at hotakaraandakamu@gmail.com with the subject "Refund request" and we haven't launched yet. After 14 days, or after launch, waitlist payments are non-refundable (because they cover your first month of access).
Monthly subscription payments after launch are non-refundable, but you can cancel any time and you won't be charged again. The current billing period continues until it ends.
6. AI categorization disclaimer
Frugal uses AI to interpret the descriptions you type and assign categories. The AI is mostly right, sometimes wrong. We don't guarantee accuracy. Always review categorizations before relying on them for serious financial decisions. The AI does not provide financial advice — it just labels your transactions.
7. Bank linking via Mono
If you choose to link a bank account through Mono, you authorize Mono to access your transaction data on your behalf and pass it to us. Mono's own terms govern that relationship. You can disconnect any linked account at any time from Settings.
Mono is regulated as an Open Banking provider in Nigeria. We rely on their security model for the bank-linking part of the service. We do not control or supervise Mono.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Frugal for any illegal purpose, including money laundering or fraud.
- Use Frugal to track someone else's spending without their consent (other than the partner-sharing feature, where both partners explicitly agree).
- Try to break, exploit, or reverse-engineer the service.
- Submit fake or misleading information to the AI categorizer to game results.
- Resell, sublicense, or build a competing product using our service.
We may suspend or terminate your account if we find you doing any of these.
9. Service availability
We do our best to keep Frugal running 24/7, but we don't guarantee it. Some of our dependencies (Supabase, Vercel, Mono, Paystack) may have outages outside our control. We may also bring the service down for planned maintenance.
We are not liable for any loss you suffer because the service was unavailable when you needed it.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by Nigerian law, Frugal's total liability to you for any claim related to the service is capped at the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
Frugal is provided "as is". We don't make any warranty about fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, or non-infringement. We try hard, but we're an MVP and bugs happen.
11. Termination
You can cancel your subscription and delete your account at any time from Settings (or by emailing us). When you delete your account, we'll remove your data within 7 days, except for payment records (which we retain for compliance).
We may terminate your account if you violate these terms, attempt fraud, or for any other reason we believe in good faith is necessary. If we terminate without cause, we'll refund any unused portion of your current month.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the app evolves. Material changes will be emailed to active users at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use Frugal after a change means you accept the updated terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of Lagos State, Nigeria.
14. Contact
For questions about these terms, refund requests, account issues, or anything else, email hotakaraandakamu@gmail.com.
